What beginners should expect:

It is never too late to learn Jiu-Jitsu. In fact, it’s said that the best time to start Jui-Jitsu training is when you are 10 and TODAY! Although it’s certainly an advanced martial art, Jui-Jitsu training is also something which beginners can embark upon quite easily and at any age. The typical class consists of an invigorating warm up, technique instruction, and open sparring/rolling. The flexibility of Jui-Jitsu instruction allows each beginner to tailor their training to their individual needs and abilities.

Beginners to Jiu-Jitsu should expect at least 3 to 6 months of solid training before seeing significant returns in their technique and physical conditioning, and at least 12 months of training to get a solid grasp of the basics. It takes approximately 8-10 years or more to achieve a black belt in Jui-Jitsu, but it is important to remember that a belt is largely for holding up your pants. The color of your belt is not as important as improving yourself, increasing your skills and abilities, and most importantly, having fun!

One of the obvious benefits of learning Jiu-jitsu is that it is good for both your physical and mental health.
